Society for Open Systems and Internet

In order to successfully respond to the challenge of open systems, users typically come together in independent associations. Thus, at the end of 1992, the Croatian Open Systems Users’ Group (HrOpen) was founded. Since 2001, the association has been called the Croatian Society for Open Systems and Internet.

HrOpen is a self-financing, non-profit association established following the example of similar European national associations. From 1993 to 1998, HrOpen was a full member of the European Forum for Open Systems (EurOpen), and since June 2010, it has been a member of OpenForum Europe, headquartered in Brussels.

Our areas of activity:

  • Informs – HrOpen collects and forwards information in the field of open systems technology and products through the activities of its members and partner portals, via the Association’s website, and through the organization of conferences and smaller educational events,
  • Researches and monitors trends in the latest achievements in information technologies,
  • Connects, enabling contacts with other members who have similar interests or have already solved your problem,
  • Serves as an information hub for new technologies, an intermediary between members, development teams, and manufacturers,
  • Supports – represents the common interests of its members and acts as a proposer of possible solutions,
  • Enables information exchange – the obligation of information producers is to provide access to information, and the obligation of recipients is to benefit from it,
  • Network information services available on the Internet,
  • Seminars and training – ensuring improvement in key areas of interest with a neutral approach,
  • Establishes contacts with open systems experts.

HrOpen is not focused only on new technologies; open systems imply open computer systems but also open-minded people who use them.

From its very foundation, HrOpen has advocated and implemented the idea that all members must have a user account, certain disk space, email, and access to network information services (World Wide Web – WWW, etc.). Such an approach enables building a solid foundation for practicing and acquiring knowledge in sending, receiving, and using information in (from) the open world, as well as in the daily interaction of open systems users within the Association.
